Christmas 2011

Christmas time has come and gone and now a new year has arrived! We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying the new year so far. Christmas time was a fun and joyful occasion at Fellowship of Hope and we hope you will enjoy it as we share with you about our celebrations.

Christmas is always an exciting time for children and this year was no exception. Because of the work of Serve Cambodia, the children are able to be part of an exciting Christmas celebration. This year the celebration was held at TLC and also included the children and staff of Harvest of Hope and Light of Hope, who travelled down to TLC to join in.

It was a big occasion, with the staff and children all working together to prepare gifts and decorate the education centre. There  were traditional Cambodian dances, music, songs and beautiful dancing angels rejoicing at the birth of Jesus. The children also received colourful balloons, so they could all feel part of the celebration.

The children also received presents from their sponsors, which this year were safety helmets – essential items for children in Cambodia, as the main forms of transport are the bicycle and motorcycle. These can be dangerous forms of transport, and very few families can afford safety helmets. The children were excited to receive their present, and we would like to say a big thankyou to the sponsors and donors who made this possible! The staff also received gifts and were honoured for their hard work over the past year.

The children have been studying hard and many have shown excellent results at the local government schools. One student received a special present for her most outstanding results in the government school this year. It is exciting to see that the extra education and support that the children are receiving at Serve Cambodia’s education centres is impacting positively on their results and, we hope, on their futures.

The churches of Fellowship of Hope also had many Christmas celebrations. The churches are growing so quickly, and the people were very excited to rejoice in the good news that Jesus was born into the world to give us hope and salvation. In our original city church (the “mother church”) in Phnom Penh many people are poor and have very little. But despite this they all demonstrated so much generosity and gave enough of their own money to fund a big Christmas event that everyone could enjoy. They also followed this up by meeting together for prayer in the city on New Years Eve, and were able to tell the good news to some of the people they met.

So much has happened in the last year, and God has blessed us so much. We would like to thank all of our supporters for your friendship, prayers and donations which have been vital to the work that we do. We are excited to see what God has planned for us in this new year, as we continue to serve Jesus and minister to the poor.
