Archive for June 2012

We would like to take this opportunity to praise God for His amazing provision so far this year. Between January and the beginning of June, our generous supporters have blessed us with one new Serve Cambodia staff sponsorship for an extra teacher, a number of new child sponsorships, enough money to run all of Serve Cambodia’s projects so far this year, and increased resources and support for the many Fellowship of Hope pastors around Cambodia! In addition we were also blessed to receive this month an AUD$6,000 grant from our partners ACCIR as a gift to help with the new home construction at Prey Sor.

Another blessing is that the 8 new homes at Happy Village are now completed and today people will be moving in to their new, safe, clean and comfortable homes. Watch this space (and keep an eye on our Facebook page too – http://www.facebook.com/ServeCambodiaFellowshipOfHope ) because very soon we will be posting some pictures of the families as they settle in and enjoy their new community – the result of a lot of effort, teamwork and generosity from around the world.

Please pray for us that God would continue to provide for the needs of all of our people and projects for the remainder of this year. Serve Cambodia’s projects are continuing to grow quickly and there are still a large number of ongoing needs. These include:

*Staff sponsorships for an administrative worker, two teachers, three cooks and two cleaners, which each cost AUD$150 per month.

*Around 20 more student sponsorships for the children at the HOH and TLC education centres (AUD$40 per month).

*Just over AUD$12,000 to help cover Serve Cambodia’s unfunded operational expenses for 2012, without which our community development projects simply can’t run. These costs include outreach at the Light of Hope education centre, transportation costs, staff health insurance, internet connections, public liability and building insurance, uniforms, community work in Happy Village and Prey Sor, family seminars etc.

*AUD$4,300 for a staff training retreat that we hope to run in the next few months.

*AUD$1,200 for a projector/screen to help with training and education.

*Approximately AUD$54,000 beyond what has already been pledged to build the 16 homes currently under construction at Prey Sor (near HOH centre), so that the relocation of families from Kian Klieng can be completed.

Serve Cambodia’s building project to provide homes for the poor is progressing well, and the Khmer builders are working very hard to complete the final 16 homes at Prey Sor. Please pray for this great need to be met, as our workers are continuing to build on in faith, believing that God will provide the money needed for this project. Here are some pictures and as you can see, they have made amazing progress! Praise God for His faithfulness and provision for us in 2012 so far.

The children learning in Serve Cambodia’s education centres were delighted to discover recently that they now have lots of new books to enjoy and learn from! Shelving and children’s books have been generously donated for the centres and these will be a real blessing for the children.

Most of the childrens’ families are unable to afford books and in Cambodia children don’t have easy access to borrow free books from a local library. These new resources will mean they have even more exposure to educational books which will help to speed up their learning and, of course, they now have lots of new stories to enjoy!

The pastors of the 37 Fellowship of Hope churches around Cambodia have also recently received new books and resources. Large resource packs have been generously donated for each congregation including Bibles, commentaries, theology books, training material, childrens’ Bibles, story books and worship resources. This will be an amazing blessing for these hungry, young churches all around Cambodia. And it will make a huge difference to their pastors as they help so many young Christians to grow and know more about God’s word.

Thankyou so much to those who have responded to these needs and helped to make these things possible. And thankyou to the many other people who have also provided support, prayers, donations and resources during the first half of this year. We thank God every day that he has blessed us with the support of so many wonderful people.
