Serve Cambodia is operating three education centres in different areas in Cambodia. There are many students each year need to go through the big examination of year 12 or (High School) and in our country it is very difficult for anyone to pass this examination to be eligible for University. We have had a small group of year 12 students for this year, and some we had already supported to join Trade courses like mechanic or electrician before the end of the year. This year Serve Cambodia has 5 students whom finished the high school, so they were study very hard for the preparation of the big examination before the University. However, that’s the challenge to be encouraging all the children to working hard in all the study action and represented Serve Cambodia and their centres to gain success and achieve the good result. On the other hand even though the 5 students are from different backgrounds and lifestyles, and even though the system was changing by the Cambodian government, but the good thing is that all 5 of them went through the exam and the result was great that they all passed!!!

Anyways, this achievement of the student make the parents very proud of their kids and Serve Cambodia education centres, so even they are poor but the next generation will change their lifestyle in the better direction. Serve Cambodia has included them into the University and Trade scholarship program which we call the Work Skills and Education Project (WSEP). Recently we have the WSEP students meeting so the new 5 scholarship students were sharing their testimony and how they want to be in the future. Some of them want to have their own establishment and running a business, not only help themselves but they can employ or help other adolescents to get a job as well. More than this, a few students want to work in the government ministry to develop our own country to a better place. Most of the students are now working full time plus also study in the university at night time so please keep them in your prayer.

All of this couldn’t have occurred without your support, we’re so blessed to have all of you that have been funding us since we registered Serve Cambodia in 2010, and some people for even longer. Since then we have assisted many students to graduate from their tertiary courses and they can look after themselves well, and some of them are meeting the expense of their whole family. Also some of them are donating part of their income back to support the WSEP project for the future. We’re really looking to see our new generation to build up their capacity to make change in the world.

On the 8th of March we celebrated International Women’s Day, a day for remembering the importance of women and working to build up women’s rights in the community. Maybe you have already seen some more photos from our Facebook page that day. There are even some videos on there showing the fun that we were having.

The women in the Happy Village and some others from surrounding villages were getting together to fellowship, learn and also sharing things around. However, on that day we all came to celebrating, but also every one of us brought some things for the party that reduced the burden of the one who arranging the program. It was an excellent women meeting, because during that time we can sharing women problem and strengthen one other to be strong also live in a way that is happy. In the program we including worship, Bible study and lots of games, it was so much fun and building up such a strong relationship between all the women.

Finally, after the meeting we have a great fellowship and enjoying with all kind of food that the women brought from their homes. This meeting will happen again in May as all of the women decided as the group. Please keep all the women in your prayer, because we really want to see all the women becoming more involved with society and more involved in public decisions to help themselves and their community.

Through the very helpful training that we have had with ACCIR staff that come to help Serve Cambodia again over the last few month, we have recognize a lot of things for improving the way the community working together. To start in action we have done some work with the people in community that live in Happy Village I and II to find out their vision and what they want to learn or doing in the next 3 year.

In the last 3 month till now we have done more than 9 family interview form so far. It’s such a privilege to hear about their life getting difference from before. We are so proud of them to see they are growing in the better way. Through the talking we have some fun time and also we have some time to play game together to make it joyful and easy for them.

Anyway, we find out one thing that they are wish to have in the future is the land and house ownership that belong to themselves. We have encourage them to set up a good plan to achieve their goal if they are really keen to see that in the futures. So we have encourage to them work harder and try to save up the money that they earn today to have a good family budget plan so they able to get the loaning from other Micro finance organisations to achieve their plan in the future. Some of the families have been saving really well for the past few months now according to their budgets and are very encouraged about this.

Everybody in the world wish to have better place to stay and live in the good condition, so do the people in our community as well, they want something that they can achieve for themselves, and see the results of their own hard work and commitment. Finally, please pray for them to achieve their goal of what they wish to do in the futures.

Showing Love to the Community

Near Harvest of Hope education centre in the Prey Sor area, there are many poor families and the staff of Serve Cambodia are keen to help these families in any way they can.

There are some poor families who have been squatting in an old disused centre. The centre was once set up by an overseas organisation to help people with HIV but it seems the organisation ran out of money and left the area quite a few years ago. So Serve Cambodia has stepped in and will assist in relocating these families to new homes nearby.

The local government appreciates and respects the work that Serve Cambodia is doing in the area to care for the poor, so they have asked Serve Cambodia to help refurbish the old HIV centre and give it a new purpose to benefit the local community further. How it will be used hasn’t yet been determined but consultation with the local community is taking place as the first step.

Meanwhile, while the relocation is taking place Serve Cambodia’s staff are showing God’s love to the families by sharing food with them, building relationships with them and learning more about their needs. Thankyou to the donors who help us to give this practical help to people in need.

Please pray that God will grant wisdom to the Board of Serve Cambodia. They want this project to be well planned, meet the needs of the community and fit well alongside the existing projects that are already running.
